A few ideas,The Bruneval Raid, some kind of North africa urban game,The Warsaw Uprising and Nijmangen.

I don't really think any game involving the Dirlewanger Brigade committing mass atrocities against civilians is likely to be a good idea.

I just htought you could have SS,Heer,Russian and resistance all in one game.

Problem being, the Russians never arrived, mate, they sat across the river and watched the uprising collapse.

Bugger the pianist tells lies lol have just researched the Dirlewanger I now see your point sorry.

Nothing to apologise for on your part, i just think it'd be for the best to avoid the more 'politically sensitive' actions of the war, as best we can.

yeah, it'd be an interesting game, especially capturing the technician and returning him to base, but it'd be a little limited, as it was only heer Vs Brits from memory.

Plus you'd have to have a bunch of non-combatant technicians milling around in the battle, which, though fun, might be a bit tedious for them as they can't fight!

Just thought it would of been a good idea for objectives and that.

Yeah but the real raid took a few hours, less than a days play isnt it?

Also oits not very exciting for the germans.

Your mission is to do sentry duty on a radar dish.

A good scenario has to have motivation for both sides, be easy to get the kit for, some sub plots so if the main objective bogs down you still have stuff to do.

For a whole day you need to make sure that both sides get the chance to be on the attack and the defence at different points.

A whole day defenidng is dull, a whole day attacking is exhausting.

Theres more to creating a scenario than naming famous battles

Sorry to jump in like this, but...

What about an Emael Eban (sp?) type scenario?

Obviously it will have to be taken with a little pinch of artistic licence, but, defenders Vs surprise attackers, then both having to hold respectively for re-enforcements?

Or perhaps a "Pegasus Bridge"-esq scenario (or is that the same? )

On the note of "fancy dress games, it's all I've played lately, and although constantly out gunned (but never outdrssed  ) myself and Taffy are always leading the attacks and taking on the box-mag warriors with lo-caps! Plus, we come out on top the majority of the time.

It's def good for a days games and a laugh, but won't stand to the detail, authentisity and effort you guys obviously put in!
I cant wait to come down and "skirmish" at one of your events!

Pegasus bridge is agood one but again, it coudl be difficult to make it interesting to do for whole day, you've got two good scenarios there. Take the bridge and hold the bridge til releived.

Could be done.

Eben emael on the other hand would make for an incredibly dull game for the belgium side as it was effectivley german paras versus gun turrets, the garrison IIRC didnt fight. You'd have to find a site that looked like the roof of a fort and again the action was over in an hour or so so its hard to spi it out to make a days play.

You need to be thinking about having enough stuff going on to keep people motivated and gaming at a pace for eight hours.

If you have one objective liek 'capture the bridge' or 'destory all the turrets' and its done in 15 mins you nee a back up plan for the other seven hours and 45 minutes on site or you'll have a lot of dissaponted/annoyed players.

When you do a scenario or suggest one, think 'would i be happy to play on both sides'. Some battles are ridiculoulsy one sided (eben emael) and woudl be no fun at all for the defenders. Woudl you want to play 30 quid to sit in a bunker all day while the other side lobbed grenades at you and pinned you donw with mg42fire?

Needs to have action and activity and goal for both sides, itsnot good one side just being moving targets for the heroic special forces of the other side, thats great in fils but hard to get someone to pay money to do :)

If you`re going to bring up war crimes, please don`t be selective. By your reasoning we couldn`t hold a `Battle for Berlin` because of the mass rape and killing of civilians by Soviet troops.
No `Monte Cassino` because the French let 12000 Morrocans loose on the nearby villages soon after the Germans had withdrawn ,where they gang raped and killed the inhabitants.
Anything involving the Yugoslavian/Czech theatre of operations is a dead end as both sides were as bad as each other as far as civvies were concerned, especially during the closing months of the war.
Sorry to be picky but I like to view an argument from both sides, and as this is airsoft and not living history, its supposed to be fun and at the same time doesn`t need to be completely authentic.
The idea for a game only needs to give a rough outline of the combat involved, not everything which happened during the time period. 8)

i agree to a point, but i think there is a moral differentiation between 'disorganised' and 'organised' war crimes, on both sides, especially ones that involved certain units like Dirlewanger. Both of which are heinous and wrong, but there is a difference in scale. One might equally say that Stalin's refusal to allow his troops into Warsaw was equally as bad a war crime.

Once the uprising took place, the point of the Warsaw campaign on the German side went from mere suppression/liquidation of the uprising to the systematic destruction of an entire city, civilian population included.

I don't think there's much morally ambiguous 'wiggle room' in that one.

but y'know, it's just my personal opinion and that. I'm also acutely aware that our hobby could easily be seen as controversial, and something like that is just gold to reporters, going from merely 'playing soldiers' to 'acting out atrocities' in on easy step.

Ok, maybe Emael wasn't such a good idea after all!

What about "Operation: Cobra". The inland thrust after the D-Day landings?

The Axis could have staggered positions with patrols in between, and each position has to be held for a certain period of time (for re-supply and re-enforcement), if they fall before the allotted hold time, the Allies get the supplies (ammo, free beers for afterwards etc) and the over run Axis have a time delay before they can come in to re-enforce the next position.

I appreciate the constructive critisism Gadge, I know how hard it is to run events!
Was once asked to help organise a night game at our local site when the main man was in hospital, it was a nightmare trying to get everyone ready and the games planned etc, and there were two of us doing it!

See Cobra is a much better idea as you have fluidity and both sides can go on the attack, its also 'big' enough to spin out over two days if neccesdary and you have theoption of concetraing on a msall part of it, or doing what we did with the firs tbotb game where you condense the whole operation into represnetative battles.

Cobra is a cracking idea to be honest, why dont you look inot doing it at your local site?

I'm sure non of us woudl mind if you wanted to nick any bits of our rules set you liked to save re-inventing the wheel.

Would love to, but there's only 5 of us at TechBrigade who are into the whole WWII thing. It'd fall over I'm afraid.

But if you guys want it, then that'd be grand! I'd def have to pull out all the stops to make it along to play! :D

Yes but there's a few of us not very far a way and if the games good enough it'll attract the players, after all I travelled about 4 hours to get to the Arnhem game and it's probably going to take longer when I go to the Wotan game.

If you book it they will come....

In all seriosuness, when CIA did the firs t Botb game we were amazed how many folk appeared we never knew were into wwii. We thught we'd get a few US and be struglling for germans.

Be great to see some more player led games liek Spiers idea.

Er yeah... at F&O for BotB there were less than 5 doing WW2... we got people from all over the country...

They key is to advertise well and a few months in advance... that's what this site is for.

Don't rely on the regulars at a site to attend... use us... :)

Ok then, I'll look into writing up the scenario and details etc.

The only forseeable problem is that we site share with paintballers (it's actually a paintball site :? ) and the guy that owns the site is a right cnut!
We've basically maintained the fields, tug trenches, built a fort, barricades, irrigated the field with a stream and bridges to stop it flooding and paid for the materials and privelage, and he's done jack and moans about us!

And as they now tend to play when we do there wouldn't be free reign through the 80 odd acres.

So I maybe looking else where to run it.... But, I'll knock up some plans etc and will post them on here for anyone to use.

Now, on with my research!
